About the Society

Jenin Charitable Society is a non-profit, non-governmental organization based in Al-Bustan neighborhood, Baghdad Street, Jenin, Palestine. Established on December 27, 1971 under registration number 7101 during the Israeli occupation, it was re-registered by the Palestinian Ministry of Interior on June 2, 2003 in accordance with Palestinian Societies and Charitable Organizations Law No. 1 of 2000, under the registration number JN_823_C.

The Society provides services to the city of Jenin, Jenin Refugee Camp, and all villages and residential areas in the governorate, serving a population of approximately 350,000 people.

Management

The organization is managed by a 9-member administrative board, elected every three years and supported by specialized committees. The current board includes doctors, teachers, accountants, and social activists.

1) Revolving Loan Program ⌄

The cornerstone program providing interest-free loans for university students from financially disadvantaged backgrounds.

Process

Application proving financial need and academic excellence (minimum 85%).
Social researcher evaluates economic and social conditions.
Annual proof of enrollment and academic success.
Students and guarantors sign promissory notes; repayment after graduation.

Impact: From 1972–2018, supported 1,021 students across Jenin Governorate.

2) Al-Hanan School for the Deaf ⌄

Founded in 1975 to serve hearing-impaired children through education and vocational training (reading, writing, embroidery, sewing, computer skills).

Stages: Preparatory & Elementary (Grades 1–10).
Enrollment: 55 students; Staff: 19 qualified teachers.
Collaborations: Training with international organizations (e.g., Al Jazeera) for sign language and communication methods.

Facilities

Boarding section for students affected by closures/blockades.
FM hearing aid system; computer lab donated by the Palestinian Telecommunications Company.

3) Kindergarten Services ⌄

Established kindergartens in several towns; a model kindergarten at HQ (1997) using innovative methodologies integrating music, theater, and role-play.

Achievements: Renovated playgrounds, cognitive development corners, expanded facilities.

4) Al-Adalat Elementary School ⌄

Established in 2005 (named after co-founder Mrs. Adalat Toukan) to alleviate overcrowding and strengthen basic education.

Affordable tuition vs. other private schools.
Emphasis on multilingual education (including Hebrew and French).
Growth: From 5 students & 1 teacher to 121 students & 10 teachers.
Future plans: expand grades up to high school.

5) Emergency & Humanitarian Services ⌄

During the 2002 Israeli invasion of Jenin:

Sheltered 1,145 displaced individuals for 20 days with food, housing, and medical aid.
Hosted alternative school sessions for displaced students.
Continuing role: provide facilities for community emergency needs.

6) Humanitarian Aid ⌄

Distributes monetary/material assistance to needy families based on thorough social and economic evaluations conducted by social workers.

7) Health Education ⌄

Since 1982: health education and community rehabilitation, focusing on maternal and child health.

8) Academic Support ⌄

Tutoring for secondary students (English, mathematics, physics, chemistry). Between 2003–2014, 724 students benefited; many achieved high grades.
